SCC Captures OEC Opening Night Victory over Orange Coast College

Tonight was opening night in the Orange Empire Conference. Santiago Canyon College traveled down to Orange Coast College to take on the Pirates. The Hawks jumped out early and built a 7-point lead about four minutes into the game and never looked back. SCC led by 21 points at the half with the score of 47-26. Leading the way for the Hawks was sharp-shooting guard Drew Yezbak with 9 points including 2 three-pointers. Erik Howlin scored 8 points, and both Aaron Wadman and Preston Sims added 7 points. Wadman also added 5 boards in the half. SCC converted on 8 of 9 from the free throw line in the half.
The second half started with both teams exchanging baskets and playing at a fast pace. The Hawks were able to break the Pirates trapping defense with some solid passing and finishing around the basket. SCC finished strong and came away with a 93-65 victory. All ten players that suited up for the game scored, with Yezbak leading the way with 19. Sims finished with 15, David Agba with 12, and Howlin with 11 to round out the double-digit scorers. Wadman and Josh Griffin grabbed 6 rebounds apiece to lead the team, while Howlin dished out 7 assists in the win. The Hawks forced 31 turnovers and connected on 21 of 26 from the free throw line. SCC improves to 11-1 on the season and 1-0 in conference play. Santiago Canyon will continue with OEC play on Friday at home as they host Cypress College at 6:00pm.
