Santiago Canyon was looking to go into the Thanksgiving break on a high note.
Santiago Canyon was looking to go into the Thanksgiving break on a high note. They accomplished their goal with a solid team effort in an 89-70 win at Mt. San Antonio College. The Hawks raced out to a quick 6-0 lead and never looked back. SCC has started strong the last few games and are looking to continue that trend in the upcoming games. SCC used a stifling defense and transition offense to build the lead in the half and had their largest lead of the half at halftime with the score 47-26.
Adam Holod continued to provide energy off the bench and knocked down four 3-pointers in the first half and a couple of free throws to pace the Hawks with 14 points at halftime. Aaron Wadman was also in double digits at halftime with 12 points, while also grabbing 8 rebounds. The Hawks were 8 for 23 from distance and 10 for 11 from the free throw line during the first half.
The second half started similar to the first half with Santiago Canyon surging to a bigger lead. At one point in the half, the Hawks were leading by 30 points. SCC was able to score 19 points off turnovers and had 23 second chance points with some great hustle by Jake Conerty, Harrison Wiese, Kai Smith, and Damien Parker. Final scoring leaders for SCC were Wadman (20), Holod (17), Wiese (12), Zach Ibbetson (10), and Smith (10). Wadman led all players with 13 rebounds. Ibbetson and Conerty chipped in with 4 assists apiece. The Hawks defense was impressive throughout the game as they held Mt. SAC to 16.7% from the three-point line.
SCC will be back in action next week as they play in the Citrus Tournament next Friday and Saturday. On Friday, December 2 they will play LA Southwest at 5:00pm. On Saturday, December 3 they will play Santa Monica at 3pm.
