Hawks Dominate from Start to Finish to Defeat Glendale College
The SCC Hawks came out with some fire in their eyes in today’s game and scored a 107-65 victory over Glendale College.
The SCC Hawks came out with some fire in their eyes in today's game and scored a 107-65 victory over Glendale College. After an off night of shooting in their season opener, the Hawks were lights out from beyond the arc, shooting 19 for 38. SCC came out fast and never looked back as they raced out to a comfortable lead thanks to their pressure full court defense.
Santiago Canyon had a strong first half performance, led by freshman guard Zach Ibbetson, who notched 20 points in the half including a 5 for 5 performance from the 3-point line. Freshman Damien Parker scored 11 points including 2 three-pointers, while Aaron Wadman and Joey Longo chipped in with 9 points apiece. The Hawks were balanced with 10 players scoring in the half, and the team dished out 15 assists to lead to their 66-33 advantage at halftime. SCC connected on 12 three-pointers on 19 attempts and converted 10 free throws out of 12 attempts.
With a comfortable lead at the half, the second half saw much of the same with SCC playing tough defense and running in transition to continue their high scoring pace. SCC outscored Glendale 41-32 in the half and finished off the game with the 107-65 victory. Five players finished with double-digit points; Ibbetson (22), Kai Smith (17), Parker (13), Aaron Wadman (12), and Joey Longo (12). Wadman also dished out 7 assists, while Parker had 6. Elijah Cirilo led the team in rebounds with 5 boards.
Santiago Canyon will be back in action next week with 2 away games. They will travel to Chaffey College for a 5pm game on Wednesday, November 9th and will play at Mira Costa College on Friday, November 11th. Game time for that matchup will be 3:00pm.
