Hawks Defeat Tigers for 17th Win

The Santiago Canyon College Men's Basketball Team is in the middle of a tough 3-game week. Tonight, the Hawks hosted Riverside City College and came away with a 71-63 victory. SCC was able to bounce back from their lone loss of the season and are geared to start another winning streak. The Tigers from Riverside City were fired up to start this game and opened up a 7-0 lead within the first couple of minutes. SCC battled back immediately and the game became a one or two possession game thoughout the half. RCC finished the half strong and held a 4-point advantage by the score of 33-29. SCC's shooting was a little off in the first half as they only made 10 out of 27 shots in the half for 37%. Antoine Jenkins led the way in scoring with 11 points in the low scoring half. Lucas Holden grabbed 4 rebounds in the half to pace the Hawks.
The second half proved to be much stronger for SCC as they outscored RCC by 12 points, 42-30. With about ten minutes to go, the Hawks had built an 11-point lead, but the Tigers bounced back and captured a five point lead with four minutes remaining. SCC kept their composure and made muliple defensive stops and scored in transition to get the lead back within the next 2 minutes. Jenkins hit a clutch three-poimter with about a minute to go to give SCC a five point advantage. From there, the Hawks finished off the game by converting on their free throws to secure the 71-63 victory. SCC was paced again by Jenkins who finished with 32 points including 5 for 7 from the 3-point line. Holden added 10 points, while A.J. Garrity finished with 9 points and David Agba contributed 8 points. Jenkins was also the team leader in rebounds with 6 boards. Garrity led the way with 5 assists on the evening. Santiago Canyon will finish up the 3-game week with a road game at Santa Ana College on Friday at 7:00pm.
