The Santiago Canyon College's Men's Basketball Team have been road warriors to start the season. Their latest road trip was to Oceanside to play against Mira Costa College. Mira Costa was ranked 18th in the CCCMBCA Preseason Poll. The Hawks were up to the challenge and defeated the Spartans by the score of 95-79 to improve their overall record to 3-1 on the young season. The Hawks were down at halftime, but their uptempo pace proved to be too much for Mira Costa in the second half.
Mira Costa jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead to start the game and were able to maintain the slim lead throughout the first half. The Hawks have struggled early in games to start the season and will look to correct that trend in the games ahead. SCC managed to cut the lead to 2 points with an offensive rebound putback at the buzzer to end the half with SCC trailing 42-44.
Santiago Canyon came out strong in the second half and raced to an early lead and never looked back. They built the lead into double digits for the last 10 minutes of the half and Mira Costa was never able to chip away at it. SCC closed out the game strong and came away with a 95-79 victory. Leading the way in scoring for the Hawks once again was Sophomore Aaron Wadman with 22 points. Adam Holod came off the bench and provided a big spark with 18 points including 5 three-pointers. Harrison Wiese chipped in with 14 points, while Kai Smith contributed 11 points. Jake Conerty had an impressive all-around game with 6 points, 9 rebounds, and 10 assists.
The Hawks will get their first home game of the season this week on Wednesday, November 16th at 6pm vs. Southwestern College. They will be back on the road next Saturday as they travel to Joshua Tree to compete against Copper Mountain College. Tip-off for that game is at 3pm.
