Hawks Splash Triple Digits in Fourth-Straight Win
Every single player on the Santiago Canyon College men's basketball team had at least one bucket in an Orange Empire Conference (OEC) contest against the Golden West College Rustlers on Tuesday night. The Hawks etched triple digits on the scoreboard leading to a commanding 114-71 win.
The Hawks led from the opening tip and held an advantage as large as 52 points with just three minutes remaining in the game. They were money from the floor as they carted a 51.2 shooting percentage which included a 40.9 three-point percentage. Furthermore, they commanded the paint as they hauled in 56 rebounds to the Rustler's mere 37, backed by forcing 15 Golden West turnovers that they shaped into 20 points.
The Hawks scored 46 points in the paint highlighted by another strong showing from sophomore center Chico Lopez. He bagged his second-consecutive double digit scoring game by flushing 17 points on a 7-for-13-night shooting. He also added a trio of triples on five attempts.
Leading the offense was sophomore guard Kai Smith. He dropped 20+ points for the third time in the last five games finishing with 24 points. He added four assists, three rebounds and one steal.
The bench came to play as they combined for a season-high 56 points. Leading the way was freshman guard Marley Jaisel who bucketed a career-high 15 points on a 6-for-8-night shooting. Sophomore guard Trevor Manning secured a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, while sophomore guard Dane Kiefer netted nine points.
Sophomore guard Caleb Hong saw the floor for 15 minutes on the night and bucketed six points, while freshman guard Eli Arthurton chipped in seven points which included a three pointer.
