Hawks Poised to Kick off 2022 Season
The Santiago Canyon College Softball team is set to kick off the new season on Saturday, January 28th. They will open up on the road with 2 games at Cerritos College, game one will take place at 9am against Cerritos with game two against Southwestern College immediately following. The Hawks are looking forward to facing a full schedule for the 2022 season after competing in a reduced schedule format with only conference games in the 2021 season.
The Hawks have three athletes currently on roster that were a part of the 2020 season that was cancelled due to Covid. With eligibility waivers, this will the third competing and yet first full season for shortstop Samantha Villanueva, second baseman Alex Molina and outfielder Lili Navarro. All three have been critical pieces to the Hawks success and were part of the team winning the Orange Empire Conference when the season was halted.
SCC returns an additional 7 athletes from last year's squad in outfielder Jade Costa, third baseman Alysa Yslas, first baseman Jazmyn Moetului, catcher Adriana Martinez, utility Natalie Crawford, outfielder Priscilla Andrade, and pitcher Hailey Guillen.
Rounding out the Hawks roster are newcomers Sarah Mazengia, freshmen outfielders Claire Green and Jenelle Torrez, transfer infielder Riley Piattoni, and freshman first baseman Lindsey Marschall. Providing pitching depth for the Hawks are freshmen Jazmine Solis and A'mya Casteneda along with transfer Stella Turner.
Head Coach, Lisa Camarco stated, "This is a self-motivated group with a lot of talent. They have set big goals for themselves this season and its been exciting to watch them put in the work it will take to reach those goals."
