Hawks Take Down #5 Long Beach
The Santiago Canyon College Softball Team defeated visiting Long Beach City College 7-4 in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday. Stella Turner threw a complete game and picked up her 15th win in the circle for the Hawks.
SCC got on the board early with 2 runs in the first inning. Riley Piattoni singled with one out and came around to score on an RBI double from Samantha Villanueva. Later in the inning with 2 outs, Jazmyn Moetului drove in Villanueva with an RBI single. Long Beach responded with a run in the top of the 2nd inning with 2 hits and taking advantage of a Hawks defensive error.
The Hawks responded in a big way, plating 4 runs the next inning. With one out, the Vikings delivered back-to-back walks to Lindsey Marschall and Alyssa Yslas. Riley Piattoni followed with a single to center scoring Marschall. Lili Navarro also walked to load the bases which allowed Piattoni to score on a bases loaded hit by pitch. Moetului and Adriana Martinez each delivered singles that scored Villanueva and Navarro.
The Vikings put the game in reach in the top of the third inning with 3 runs of their own. Long Beach had 2 singles, 2 hit batters, and 2 Hawks errors before Stella Turner put up a big strikeout to end the inning. The Hawks final run came in the bottom of the third inning when Marschall scored on a defensive error. She had reached on a walk, advanced to second on a bunt by Alyssa Yslas, and moved to third on a base hit by Riley Piattoni.
Riley Piattoni was 3-for-4 on the day with 2 runs scored, a stolen base, and an RBI. Jazmyn Moetului was 3-for-4 with 2 RBI and a double.
The Hawks return to Orange Empire Conference action on Wednesday at Saddleback College. First pitch is scheduled for 3pm.
