Hawks Win on Faculty & Staff Appreciation Day
The Santiago Canyon College Softball Team defeated Orange Coast College by a score of 3-0 to complete the 3-game series sweep. The win improves the Hawks to 26-7 overall and 15-3 in Orange Empire Conference play holding them in first place. Stella Turner picked up her 21st win of the year while shutting out the pirates in a 7-inning complete game.
The Hawks scored their first run in the second inning on an RBI single from Lindsey Marschall that scored Jade Costa who reached after getting hit by a pitch. In the fourth, the Hawks added an additional run on a double in the right-center gap from Adriana Martinez that once again scored Costa. The final run came in the bottom of the 6th inning when Martinez was able to score on a single to the right side from Samantha Villanueva. Martinez had led off the inning reaching base on a hit by pitch and moved to second base on a sacrifice bunt. Riley Piattoni hit a ball up the middle allowing Martinez to reach third setting up the run scoring opportunity.
The Hawks had another reason to celebrate as they held their annual "Faculty & Staff Appreciation Day" prior to the start of the game. Members of the SCC Community were invited out to be recognized for their contribution to our student-athlete's success! These individuals were honored by throwing out the ceremonial first pitch!
The Hawks will continue with Orange Empire Conference action of Friday as they take on Saddleback for the final game of the 3-game series. Game time is scheduled for 2:00pm.
