Season Preview
The Santiago Canyon College Softball Team will kick off the 2023 season on Friday, January 27th. The Hawks open with a 3-game road trip hosted at Bakersfield College. At 12:00pm on Friday, SCC will face the host, Bakersfield College followed by a 2:30pm matchup with State Championship opponent College of San Mateo. San Mateo gave the Hawks their first loss at the CCCAA State Championship Tournament last season with an 11-10 final score. On Saturday, the Hawks will face off against Mt. San Antonio College at 2:30pm.
The Hawks return 8 players from their 2022 roster including Lindsey Marschall (First Base), Riley Piattoni (Middle Infield), Jade Costa (Outfield), Claire Greene (Utility), Alexandra Molina (Utility), Jenelle Torrez (Outfield), Jazmine Solis and A'mya Castaneda (Pitchers). SCC has added to the depth of their pitching roster with transfer Brooke Owens and Freshman Madison Lee. Rounding out the Hawks are freshman utility Alyssa Jauregui, Catchers Raneem Kerdiya and Sophia Legaspi, freshman outfielders Alyssa Patlan and Peyton Monroe, and freshman infielders Noemi Mardueno, Selena Salcido, and Alexa Espinoza.
The Hawks, who contended for the 2022 State Championship title and fell just short, look to return to the CCCAA State Championship tournament once again this season. "We have a great mix of youth, experience, and leadership on this team," said Head Coach Lisa Camarco who is kicking off her 17th season with SCC. "I am excited to see the fight that this group has and where it will ultimately take us."
