Hawks Take Advantage of Seven Bobcat Errors in Season Finale
Freshman hurler Madison Lee took to the slab for the final Orange Empire Conference (OEC) game of the season on Thursday afternoon and looked to lead her team to a series victory over the Saddleback College Bobcats. She did just that with contributions in both areas of the game leading to an 8-3 victory.
Lee (11-22) picked up her 11th win of the season after going seven innings and allowing one earned run off six hits. She recorded four punchouts in the process.
She began her outing by retiring the first seven batters she faced featuring five fly outs and a pair of groundouts.
The Hawk's offense struck in the top of the second inning after sophomore right fielder Selena Salcido sparked a one-out rally by barreling a double down the right field line. Freshman left fielder Tasneem Kerdiya advanced her to third on a single up the middle. They both came around to score a batter later after freshman shortstop Yazmine Garcia poked a single to right field, handing the Hawks a 2-0 lead.
The bats continued to chug along as the Hawks plated three more runs in the following two frames.
In the top of the third inning, sophomore center fielder Alyssa Patlan came around to score on an error. Two more runs came around to score in the top of the fourth inning as Garcia collected her second-consecutive two-RBI knock. Salcido and T. Kerdiya each reached on consecutive Saddleback fielding blunders and came around to score on Garcia's single.
The Bobcats were able to scratch across two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to trim their deficit to three runs. However, it was short lived as the Hawks continued to apply pressure offensively in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Patlan drew her second-consecutive walk and came around to score on an error by the Saddleback catcher. Lee followed three batters later by launching a solo shot over the center field wall to regain the five-run lead.
The Hawks added another insurance run in the top of the sixth inning compliments of a sacrifice fly off the bat of freshman first baseman Kaitlin Murphy, scoring T. Kerdiya, leading to an 8-3 win.
The Hawks took advantage of Saddleback's season-high seven errors. Nevertheless, they barreled eight hits with Garcia leading the way. She went 2-for-4 with a set of RBI knocks. T. Kerdiya scored three times and notched a hit, while Salcido touched home twice and squared up a two bagger.
The Hawks finished the regular season going 13-27 with a conference clip of 6-15 leading to a seventh-place finish.
