Santiago Canyon College Seeded #1 in CCCAA Men's Basketball Playoffs
The Santiago Canyon College Men's Basketball Team has received the #1 seed going into the CCCAA Playoffs.
The Santiago Canyon College Men's Basketball Team has received the #1 seed going into the CCCAA Playoffs. The Hawks earned the seed with a 26-2 overall record and a 1st Place finish in the Orange Empire Conference. SCC secured a 1st round bye and will play at home in the second round on Saturday, February 29th at 7pm vs. the winner of the West LA and Mt. San Jacinto game on Wednesday.
In just their 3rd year of men's basketball, the program has made great strides. In their inaugural year, 2017-18, the team finished with 22 wins and advanced to the Southern California Regional Finals. Last season, 2018-19, the Hawks finished with 20 wins and reached the Southern California Regional Semi-Finals. The season, Santiago Canyon has set the record for most wins in a season with 26 and has been ranked #1 in Southern California for most of the season according to the Massey Rating. The Hawks won the Santa Ana Tournament Championship and the Pasadena City Tournament Championship earlier this season as well.
Santiago Canyon won the Orange Empire Conference for the first time and had several players be recognized. Antoine Jenkins was selected Most Valuable Player and Best Offensive Player of the conference. First Team All Conference selections were David Agba, A.J. Garrity, and Paul Vilela. Paulo Araujo and Lucas Holden were both selected 2nd Team All Conference. Coach Todd Dixon was named Coach of the Year for the OEC.
