Men’s Volleyball Bested by SD Miramar
The Santiago Canyon College men's volleyball team hosted the San Diego Miramar College Jets on Wednesday night in hopes of snagging their first win in five matches. The Hawks improved in each set, but unforced errors haunted them down the stretch leading to a three-set defeat.
It is Santiago Canyon's fourth three-set loss in the past five matches.
Freshman outside hitter Sean Bramow was the leading offensive threat after hammering home a team-high nine kills on 22 swings. His nine kills acted as a season-high by besting his previous career-high mark of seven kills against Palomar two matches ago. He added five digs in the process.
Freshman outside hitter Jaden Phillips followed with eight kills in the most action he has seen in three matches. He finished with a .333 hitting percentage. Phillips played big at the net as well by rising up for three solo stuffs. Freshman middle Josh Gregorec followed with two solo blocks and two block assists.
The offense was efficiently ran by sophomore setter Jonathan Chavez Calderon. He lofted up a team-high 13 assists accompanied by an ace in the third set. He has landed in double-digit assists in three of the last four matches while recording his fifth double-digit assist total of the season.
A trio of players earned six digs on the night led by sophomore libero Ryan Dickson. Freshman duo Ian Nelson and Josiah Saldana also pocketed six digs, while Nelson lofted up nine assists in the dual setter system.
The Hawks committed 14 errors on the serving front along with 14 total attacking errors. They hit .134 as a team.
The Hawks (1-9) will round out non-conference play on the road Wednesday, March 13 against Santa Monica on the road.
