Hawks Take Down Fullerton
The Santiago Canyon College Softball Team continued its winning ways with a 5-2 victory over Fullerton College on Friday. The Hawks are now riding a 12-game win streak taking their overall record to 12-4, with an Orange Empire Conference record of 5-0. The Hawks have 2 more conference games next week to complete the first round of OEC play and are currently tied with Cypress College for first place.
The Hawks got on the board early against the Hornets with a 4 run first inning. Sabrina Rivera and Alyssa Enriquez reached on back to back hit by pitches. Liliana Navarro then hit a single up the middle to give their Hawks their first run. Cozette Zoch followed it up with an RBI double off the left field fence. Samantha Villanueva and Isabelle Valdez each came through with RBI singles to give SCC the 4-0 lead.
In the bottom of the fourth, Fullerton was able to push a run across on a 2-out double followed up by an RBI single. The Hawks responded in the top of the 6th with a run of their own. Dana Demo and Nicole Crabb both reached on singles. Demo later scored on a Hornet fielding error. Fullerton made one final push in the bottom half of the inning with a 2-out triple down the right field line that ended up scoring on a base hit. SCC pitcher, Mystique Rocha, was able to shut down the threat however and hold on for the 5-2 win.
Mystique threw a complete game improving to 12-2 on the year and 5-0 in conference play. She held the Hornets to just 4 hits while striking out 7 batters. Isabelle Valdez led the Hawks offense going 2-for-3 on the day while Sabrina Rivera and Cozette Zoch each had a double.
