SCC Extends Win Streak
The Santiago Canyon College Softball team defeated Fullerton College 7-2 today in an Orange Empire Conference game. The win brings the Hawks overall record to 15-2, 6-1 in conference play. SCC has now won 5 in a row after dropping a game on February 23rd, outscoring their opponents 36-7 in that 5 game stretch. Stella Turner threw a complete game, picking up her 11th win of the year with 4 strikeouts on the day.
The Hawks struck early posting 5 runs in the first inning. Alyssa Yslas and Adriana Martinez led off with back-to-back singles. Samantha Villanueva then drove a ball deep to left field for a 3-run homerun. Later in the inning, Hailey Guillen delivered a 2 RBI single scoring Riley Piattoni and Jade Costa who had both reached on base hits.
SCC added 2 more runs in the second inning. Martinez was hit by a pitch to start the inning and advances to third on a double from Villanueva. Both Martinez and Villanueva eventually scored on an RBI single from Piattoni.
While the Hornets made a push with 2 runs in the 6th inning on 4 hits, the Hawks 7 runs would be enough to hold them off and secure the win.
The Hawks offense was led by Samantha Villanueva (3-for-4, 3 RBI, 2 Runs Scored, double, homerun) and Riley Piattoni (2-for-3, 2 RBI, 1 Run Scored).
The Hawks will finish out the week with an Orange Empire Conference game at Santa Ana College on Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00pm.
