Men’s & Women’s Cross Country Compete at Golden West Invitational
The Santiago Canyon College men's and women's cross country teams competed at the 2023 Golden West Invitational on Friday morning against fellow 3C2A competitors. The men worked to a top-10 finish by placing ninth overall, while the women competed with a pair of strong times.
Men
Leading the pack for the Hawks was freshman Johan Chan Espejo who placed inside the top-50. He worked a 45th overall placing with a time reading 23:19.5. Freshman duo Nicholas Villalobos and Christopher Selevos finished back-to-back in 71st and 72nd, respectively. Villalobos edged out his teammate with a time of 24:39.7, while Selevos crossed the finish line with a mark reading 24:39.9.
Freshman Jacob Hallahan placed 87th overall with a 26:33.7 clip, while freshman Trevor Wong capped the showings with a 28:14.2. mark.
Women
Freshman speedster Amabelle Olmedo highlighted the Hawks with a top-25 finish. She placed 24th overall with a time of 22:06.6. She has led the Hawks in every race.
Freshman Selah Darden was the second and final runner for SCC as she placed 81st overall with a time of 30:53.5.
