Cross Country Competes at OEC Championships
The men's and women's cross country programs competed in the Orange Empire Conference (OEC) Championships this morning at Miles Square Regional Park in Fountain Valley, CA. Both sides performed well with the women placing fourth overall and the men placing fifth overall.
Women
It was the first time this season the women were able to compete with a full lineup and earn a place in the standings. It was no surprise that freshman Amabelle Olmedo led the Hawks as she has all year. She placed inside the top-10 finishing at 10th place with a time of 21:15.21. Following behind was sophomore Kaitlin Murphy who cruised to a top-25 finish by crossing the finish line at 24:17.19 to finish 22nd overall.
Sophomore Sophia LeGaspi clocked in a mark of 29:27.30 to earn her 33rd overall, while freshman Selah Darden finished on her heals with a mark of 29:52.42 to earn 34th place. Freshman Emma Avelar capped the performances for the Haws with a 35th place finish at a clip reading 30:29.53.
Men
Freshman Johan Espejo was the top runner for the Hawks coming in at a mark of 23:18.86 to finish inside the top-30 at 29th place. Freshman Christopher Selevos followed inside the top-40 with a mark of 24:07.33 to land him in 38th place, while freshman Jacob Hallahan followed in 43rd place at a time of 24:43.70.
Freshman duo Nicholas Villalobos and Trevor Wong finished consecutively to land inside the top-50. Villalobos crossed the finsih line at 26:08.37, while Wong punched in a time reading 26:28.26.
