Ava Cline & Chelea Riedel Advance to Southern California Regionals
Two Santiago Canyon College women's beach volleyball pairs reached the round of 16 in the Orange Empire Conference Championships on Friday afternoon. Leading the way were sophomores Ava Cline and Chelsea Riedel, the Hawks' top duo, who advanced to the semifinals after a dramatic three-set victory.
Cline and Riedel dropped the opening set 23–25 but rebounded with commanding wins of 21–12 and 15–12 to secure their place in the semifinals. Their deep run in the bracket also earned them a spot in the 3C2A Southern California Regionals.
Their tournament run ended in the semifinals with a straight-sets loss.
Meanwhile, sophomores Ashlyn Smith and Sophie Ziglinski, the Hawks' No. 2 pair, advanced to the round of 16 after a straight-sets win in the opening round. They were eventually eliminated in the next round, concluding a strong final season.
Following the tournament, Cline and Riedel were named to the All-Conference First Team, while Smith and Ziglinski received Second-Team All-Conference honors.
