Hawks Soar Over Mt. San Antonio
Even though SCC had defeated Mt. San Antonio in the Pasadena City College Tournament last week, they knew it was going to be a tough battle playing in the Mounties’ home gym.
Even though SCC had defeated Mt. San Antonio in the Pasadena City College Tournament last week, they knew it was going to be a tough battle playing in the Mounties' home gym. The game was close for the first 12 minutes of the first half as both teams knocked down timely shots. However, the Hawks turned up their defensive intensity and went on a 10-2 run late in the half to take a 40-33 lead into the locker room. At the half, Antoine Jenkins and AJ Garrity led the Hawks in scoring with 9 points apiece.
The Hawks continued their momentum in the second half and built a 20-point lead with 13:51 left in the half. Mt. SAC didn't let down though and constantly battled back throughout the half with slashing drives to the basket. SCC countered and responded each time with some timely 3-point shots. The Hawks finished the game with an 84-66 road victory. With the win, SCC is now 8-0 on the season. Jenkins finished the game with 22 points, while four other players had double digits in points. Lucas Holden scored 13 points, Paulo Araujo had 13 points, AJ Garrity finished with 12 points, and David Agba contributed 10 points. Holden secured a game high 11 rebounds and had 4 blocks, while Paul Vilela dished out 9 assists.
SCC is currently ranked #3 in California according to the Massey Rating and ranked #5 in the state in the CCCMBCA Coaches' Poll. The Hawks will travel to Joshua Tree to play at Copper Mountain College this Friday, November 22nd at 5:00pm
