Santiago Canyon College jumped out to a quick lead and never looked back tonight as they defeated Cypress 90-72. It is the 21st win on the season for the Hawks, who are currently ranked 2nd in California. The Hawks were hot from the 3-point line in the first half as they connected on 11 three pointers on just 16 attempts. It was a balanced attack as 7 different players hit at least one three-pointer in the half. SCC finished the first half with a 17-point lead, 56-39. Antoine Jenkins led the way in scoring with 13 points and Lucas Holden had 11 points. Both connected on two three-pointers in the first half. The Hawks also had 14 assists in the half.
SCC maintained a double-digit lead throughout the second half and was never threatened. The Hawks defense kept Cypress in check and held them to 33 points in the half. Jenkins finished the night with a game-high 23 points on 9 for 15 shooting. He also contributed 5 assists. Paul Vilela scored 15 points, including three-pointers. Three other players also finished in double digits. Holden finished with 11 points, A.J. Garrity scored 10 points, and Paulo Araujo added 10 points. Araujo finished 3 for 3 from the three point line. Kevin Dobson came off the bench to add 9 points on 3 for 5 shooting from beyond the arc. Araujo was the team leader in rebounds with 6. Overall, the Hawks finished the evening shooting 54.8% from distance and 62% overall.
SCC is now 21-1 on the season. They will be back in action on Friday as they host Saddleback College. Tip-off is set for 6pm.
