Santiago Canyon won its 23rd game of the season tonight as they defeated Golden West by the score of 112-76. The 23 wins sets a new school record for most wins in a season. The previous mark was 22 set two years ago by the 2017-18 team in the inaugural season of men's basketball at the college. The victory also improved SCC's conference record to 11-1. The Hawks started fast and never trailed in the game. They built an early 20-point lead around the 12-minute mark of the first half and maintained it throughout the game. Paul Vilela came out on fire, as he connected on 4 three-pointers and scored 17 points in the first half. Antoine Jenkins chipped in with 10 points. SCC led at the half 58-38. The Hawks connected on 8 threes in the half on 20 attempts, as they continue to scorch the nets from beyond the arc.
The second half saw all players contribute off the bench and help build a game-high 38 point lead with 3:07 left in the game. SCC finished with six players in double digits. Vilela led all scorers with 24 points and Jenkins finished with 19. A.J. Garrity contributed 18 points including 3 three-pointers, while David Agba and Randall Walker both scored 12 points. Paulo Araujo rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points. Agba secured 10 rebounds on the evening and also dished out a team-high 5 assists. Arajuo helped in the rebounding department by grabbing 6 boards. The Hawks finished the game with 16 made threes on 39 attempts for 41%. For the game, SCC shot 47.9% from the floor. With the win, the #2 ranked Santiago Canyon College Hawks now have a 23-1 record on the season.
The Hawks continue Orange Empire Conference play next week as they host Fullerton on Tuesday and will pay at Riverside City College on Thursday. The home game on Tuesday has a tip time of 6pm. On Thursday, the road matchup vs. Riverside City will be at 7pm.
