Hawks Fly over Fighting Cacti for 6th Win of Season

SCC opened up their post-Thanksgiving schedule with a home victory over Copper Mountain College on Monday. The final score was 87-77 as both teams looked impressive on offense at times. With the win, the Hawks improve their record to 6-1 on the season and the Fighting Cacti are now 2-3.
The first half was extremely competitive as neither team could stretch out to a double digit lead. Copper Mountain's biggest lead was five and SCC's was 7. The first half ended with Copper Mountain in the lead with a 43-41 advantage. David Agba led the Hawks in scoring in the half with 13 and Aaron Wadman chipped in with 11 points. Preston Sims secured 5 rebounds in the first half. The lead changed hands six different times during the half as both teams were efficient on offense.
SCC asserted themselves in the second half and opened up a 13 point lead with 6:55 left in the game thanks in part to solid team defense and good execution on the offensive end of the floor. The Hawks had five players in double digits again as their balanced scoring attack continues to be a force. Agba led the way with 24. Wadman and Sims had 18 and 17, respectively. Erik Howlin continued his stellar play off the bench with 11 points and Drew Yezbak added 10 points. Sims led the way in rebounds with 10 to secure his first double-double of the season. Agba had 9 rebounds and Wadman had 8, as well.
The Hawks will be back in action this weekend as they play in the Citrus Tournament on Friday and Saturday. SCC will play Santa Monica at 6:30pm on Friday, December 3 and then play host Citrus on Saturday, December 4 at 6:30pm.
