Santiago Canyon Defeats Saddleback in Double Overtime

Santiago Canyon College visited Saddleback College for their 6th Orange Empire Conference game. SCC came away with an exciting 97-93 victory in double overtime to improve their overall record to 15-2 and a conference record of 5-1.The Hawks made it interesting after giving up a double digit lead in the second half. The entire game was full of runs by each team. In the first half, the Bobcats jumped out to a 12 point lead on some solid three-point shooting. The Hawks battled back in the half and were able to grab a 2-point lead by the score of 38-36.
In the second half, the Hawks surged to a 14-point lead at one point, but the Bobcats got hot from the three and made several down the stretch to tie the game. At the end of regulation, Saddleback connected on a 3-pointer to tie the game at 70 with 5 seconds remaining. The Hawks were able to get off a three-point shot to try and win it, but it fell short. In the first overtime, David Agba connected on a pair of free throws to tie the game at 80 with 10.3 seconds left. Saddleback fired a deep three to try and win it, but came up short. In double overtime, Drew Yezbak connected on a pair of threes, and Erik Howlin nailed a three as well. SCC managed to pull out a 97-93 win with a pair of free throws by Preston Sims with 4 seconds left. Scoring Leaders for the Hawks were Aaron Wadman (25 points), Drew Yezbak (21 points), Erik Howlin (15 points), and Preston Sims (12 points). Wadman had a team-high 12 rebounds and 8 assists as well.
4th ranked SCC will be back in action on Monday, 1/31 and Friday, 2/4 as they play Golden West both times. The Monday game will be at Golden West College at 4pm and is the make-up game from a previously postponed game. Friday's game will be at SCC with tip-off at 6pm.
