Hawks Finish Strong to defeat Chaffey College on the Road

Santiago Canyon took to the road tonight in their first true road game of the season. They traveled to Chaffey College in Rancho Cucamonga for the 5pm tip. SCC started sluggish, while the Panthers were red hot from the field. However, the Hawks battled back and took control in the second half for the 9 point victory by a score of 82-73. Santiago Canyon showed some determination to overcome the deficit and pull away with the victory.
Chaffey jumped out to their largest lead of the game at 10 points with 8:26 left in the first half. The Hawks were able to cut the deficit to 6 at halftime with a score of 37-43. Leading the way at the half was Aaron Wadman with 14 points and Zach Ibbetson with 10 points. The Hawk's offense looked good as they connected on 58.3% of their shots. However, they turned the ball over 11 times leading to easy transition for the Panthers.
The second half saw the Hawks jump on Chaffey early and cut right into the deficit by scoring the first five points of the half. SCC continued their surge and were able to take the lead midway through the second half. The Hawks finished strong and converted in crunch time to pull away with an 82-73 victory. Wadman finished with a game high 25 points and Ibbetson finished with 21, including a sizzling 5 for 6 from the three-point line. Kai Smith rounded out the double digit scorers with 10 points.
Santiago Canyon will travel to Oceanside on Friday to take on Mira Costa College. Tip-off is set for 3pm.
