Hawks Soar over Panthers for 83-71 Home Victory
The well-traveled Hawks played their first home game of the season tonight against Southwestern College.
The well-traveled Hawks played their first home game of the season tonight against Southwestern College. SCC was looking to build their winning streak to 4 games and were successful with a solid victory over the Panthers by the score of 83-71. Santiago Canyon raced out to a 10-2 lead and never looked back. The Hawks built an 18-point lead with 8:27 left in the half and led 44-32 at intermission. The second half was much the same as they held their largest lead of the game of 27 points with 7:09 left in the game.
The Hawks have been a second half team so far this season, but tonight was different as they played strong from start to finish and hope to continue the trend throughout the rest of the season. Leading the way in scoring at the half were Aaron Wadman, Harrison Wiese, and Adam Holod who each had 8 points. Holod connected on two 3-pointers in the half. Wadman also paced the squad with 6 rebounds and 4 assists.
Santiago Canyon started the second half much like the first by scoring the first six points to extend their 12 point lead to 18 points. The Hawks had many players contribute on both ends of the court. The leading scorers for the game were Wadman (17), Damien Parker (14), Zach Ibbetson (12), Kai Smith (12), and Holod (12). Wadman finished with 9 rebounds, while Jake Conerty secured 6. SCC connected on 9 three-pointers with Holod leading the way with three and Ibbetson with two. Next up for the Hawks is a road trip to Joshua Tree to take on Copper Mountain College on Saturday, November 19. Tip-off is set for 3:00pm
