Hawks fall to LA Southwest 78-82 in Citrus Tournament
Santiago Canyon College entered today’s game with a 5-2 record and was looking for a victory in the opening round of the Citrus Tournament against LA Southwest College.
Santiago Canyon College entered today's game with a 5-2 record and was looking for a victory in the opening round of the Citrus Tournament against LA Southwest College. The game was close throughout, but the Hawks fell by the score of 78-82. Unfortunately, a poor shooting night was the leading cause for the loss. The Hawks will look to bounce back against Santa Monica tomorrow afternoon.
The first half was back and forth with neither team getting a significant lead. LA Southwest's largest lead was 5, while SCC's largest lead in the half was 4. LA Southwest established their inside game early and relied on it throughout the half, while the Hawks were not efficient from the 3-point line going 3 for 18 from deep. SCC was led in scoring in the first half by Zach Ibbetson with 12 points and Aaron Wadman with 11 points. Jake Conerty snared 4 rebounds in the half to lead the Hawks. The score at the half was LA Southwest 32, Santiago Canyon 30.
The game opened up more in the second half as the Hawks scored 48 points, but they weren't able to get over the hump and take the lead. SCC improved from the 3-point line by shooting 6 for 15, but ended the game 9 for 33 from distance. The Hawks did a tremendous job on the offensive boards by grabbing 16. Overall, the leaders in rebounding for the game were Ibbetson, Wadman, and Conerty with 6 each. Leading scorers in the game for the Hawks were Wadman with 30, Ibbetson with 18, and Damien Parker with 12 points. The 78 points were the fewest for Santiago Canyon this season.
SCC, now 5-3 on the season, will look to bounce back tomorrow in the second game of the Citrus Tournament. Their opponent is Santa Monica College and game time is set for 3:00pm.
