Hawks Close Out Skip Robinson Tournament on High Note
After a sluggish offensive performance last night, the Santiago Canyon College men's basketball team looked to regain form in the final game of Pasadena's Skip Robinson tournament on Friday night. The Hawks did just that by notching a 45.3 shooting percentage leading to a win over the LA Pierce College Brahmas.
The starting five contributed all but six points tonight with sophomores Kai Smith and Isaiah Arthurton leading the way by flushing over 20 points each.
Smith continued to shine at the helm of the offense by notching his seventh-consecutive 20 point plus game. He was efficient from the floor by going 10-for-16 leading to 22 points. He added six assists, five rebounds and three steals as well.
Smith was part of the two-headed offensive completed by I. Arthurton. He scored a season-high 21 points highlighted by a 7-for-13 shooting night. His total included a flawless 5-for-5 from the line and a pair of three pointers. He has been money from the charity stripe so far this season as he is yet to miss a free throw.
Freshman guard Eli Arthurton followed with 10 points and two steals, while sophomore guard Joey Longo and freshman guard Tony Colley combined for 15 points.
The Hawks outrebounded LA Pierce 34-20 and held a 14 point lead at the five-minute mark in the second half. Most of the offensive damage was done inside of the three-point line with the Hawks bucketing 34 points in the paint. They carried a 29.2 shooting percentage from long range.
