Hawks Net Triple Digits in Big Win over Rustlers
The Santiago Canyon College men's basketball team lit up the gym on Friday night as they hosted the one-win Golden West College Rustlers in Orange Empire Conference (OEC) action. The Hawks surpassed the century mark in scoring for the first this season leading to a commanding 110-78 victory.
The Hawks have scored 90 or more points in six of their last seven victories. They currently sit at an overall record of 13-4 with a conference clip of 4-1.
It was another impressive shooting night for SCC as they carted a 51.3 percent mark from the floor. It is the sixth time this season they have surpassed the 50 percent threshold from the floor. They heaved up 32 three pointers with 13 falling for a 40.6 shooting clip. Furthermore, they dominated the boards by outrebounding the Rustlers 54-29.
The Hawk's largest lead came with just over 30 seconds left in the game as they held a 34-point advantage. All but one player on the Hawks roster scored at least two points to contribute to the offensive prowess.
Sophomore guard Damien Parker led the scoring brigade as he was one of three double-digit finishers. He inked 25 points to go along with 10 rebounds for his first double-double of the season. Both scoring and rebounding totals marked a season high.
Sophomore guard Kai Smith also clocked in a double-double for the first time this season after flushing 24 points and racking up 11 boards. He also swiped four steals and dished out three assists.
Freshman duo Tony Colley and Eli Arthurton combined for 25 points and nine rebounds. Colley bucketed 12 points, while E. Arthurton edged him with 13 points and hauled in six rebounds.
Freshman Marly Jaisel took advantage of 11 minutes of action by scoring eight points. Sophomores Johnny Sun and Caleb Hong combined for five points and eight minutes of play, while sophomore Isaiah Arthurton dropped seven points in 23 minutes off the bench.
