Hawks Rebound with Win over Riverside
The Santiago Canyon College men's basketball team continued Orange Empire Conference (OEC) action on the road Wednesday night as they faced off against the Riverside City College Tigers on the road. The game featured six lead changes and seven ties, but it was the Hawks who earned the last laugh leading to a 71-65 triumph.
It was a low scoring affair as the Hawks shot a lowly 15.4 percent from distance, but leaned on a 38.1 overall shooting percentage. They won the free throw battle by shooting 19-for-22 from the line and forcing 21 Riverside turnovers. They held their largest lead of the game with a tick remaining in the first half at 10 points.
It was a team effort on the offensive front, but freshman guard Trevor Manning held down the fort by dropping 18 points. He went 6-for-11 from the floor and led the team in attempts. He clocked in a 6-for-7 effort from the charity stripe while swatting two shots away on the defensive end.
Sophomore guard Joey Longo bagged a double-double for the second time in three games. He flushed 13 points and rose up for 10 boards. He swiped four steals and dished out three assists as well. Freshman guard Damien Parker matched his efforts with 13 points, while freshman guard Tony Colley bucketed nine points on just six shots.
