The Santiago Canyon College men's soccer team hit the road on Friday for and Orange Empire Conference (OEC) showdown against the No. 14. Irvine Valley College Lasers. The Hawks netted an early score to take a goal advantage into halftime, but a second-half netter from Irvine Valley resulted in a one-all tie.
Opportunities were limited for the Hawks as they only managed to fire off a mere three attempts. However, the lone shot of the first half found the back of the net compliments of freshman forward Diego Rivera in the 36th minute. Sophomore midfielder Wesley Harris was credited the assist as SCC carried a lead into halftime.
However, the Lasers came out guns blazing in the second half by firing off 11 shots. They scored their first goal in the 52nd minute from 25 yards out. This eventually led to the tie.
Freshman duo Juan Pablo Alvarez and Omar Jarrar shared time in the goal with Alvarez notching an even 60 minutes between the posts. He tallied four saves, while Jararr racked up six saves in 30 minutes of work.
