The Santiago Canyon College men's soccer team looked to etch its first win in Orange Empire Conference (OEC) play on the road Friday afternoon against the Cypress College Chargers. Despite an early lead, the Hawks were unable to answer as the game progress leading to a 3-1 defeat.
The Hawks struck early as they typically do with a score in the third minute off the foot of freshman forward Jorge Garcia Cruz. Sophomore midfielder Vince Corral was able to lead him to the goal to cart an early advantage.
However, the Chargers were able to etch a goal in the 44th minute, followed by two more netters in the second half leading to the defeat.
Nine yellow cards and one red card were issued throughout the duration of contest with eight cards being flashed in the second half. A total of 28 fouls were issued throughout the game.
SCC managed six shots on goal with half of them landing on frame. Freshman duo Nick Asam and Garcia Cruz fired off two, while freshman forward Diego Rivera and sophomore midfielder Miguel Segovia each tried once.
Freshman goalkeeper Juan Pablo Alvarez was tabbed with the loss going save less and allowing three goals.
