Men’s Volleyball Falls in Conference Action
The Santiago Canyon College men's volleyball team hosted the Irvine Valley College Lasers on Wednesday night in Orange Empire Conference (OEC) action. The Hawks, who have struggled most of the season, dropped their 12th-consecutive match in three sets.
Despite the straight set sweep and the unfortunate losing streak, the Hawks continue to battle to keep set scores relatively close.
Freshman Jaden Phillips led the squad with nine kills on 30 attempts. He added eight digs in the process. He currently leads the team with 97 kills on the season and is on pace to finish the season over the century mark. Furthermore, he leads his team with a 2.42 kills-per-set mark.
Freshman Sean Bramow followed with seven kills on 17 attempts, while freshman CJ Hustedt followed with four kills. Freshman Josiah Saldana chipped in three kills as well.
The Hawks continued to roll with a dual-setter system featuring freshman Ian Nelson and sophomore Jonathan Chavez Calderon. Nelson earned the start and lofted up nine assist and recorded eight digs, while Chavez Calderon matched his digs total with eight and notched a team-high 11 assists.
Freshman Josh Gregorec handled the middle as he rose up for three solo stuffs and assisted on one block. He added one kill and recorded his first-career service ace.
