The Santiago Canyon College men's volleyball team faced off against stiff competition on Friday night as they took on the top-ranked Orange Coast College Pirates on the road. The Hawks fell in three sets, but put together some tight sets scores in the early stages of the match.
Offense came at a premium for the Hawks with freshman CJ Hustedt leading with five kills on 16 attempts. Hustedt has recorded five or more kills in seven matches this season and has recorded at least one kill in all but one match.
Freshman Jaden Phillips followed with four kills, while freshman Josiah Saldana matched his four kills on 12 attempts.
Sophomore Ryan Dickson manned the back line leading to a team-high seven digs, while freshman Ian Nelson backed him with six digs. Nelson also lead with nine assists, while sophomore Jonathon Chavez Calderon lofted up five assists.
Freshman Josh Gregorec handled the net with power leading to a career-high four solo stuffs and five block assists. Gregorec leads the Orange Empire Conference (OEC) with 1.09 blocks-per-set.
