Golden West Invitational
On Friday, September 16th, the SCC Men's and Women's Cross Country Teams competed within a field of 11 community colleges at the Golden West Invitational held at Central Park in Huntington Beach.
The Running Hawks placed 7th in the men's race as they recorded wins over the teams from Golden West, Norco, Oxnard, and San Diego Southwestern. The team was paced by sophomore team captain Jesus Retiguin (25th place) who completed the 4-mile course in a time of 22 minutes 16 seconds. Freshmen Johan Espejo (40th place, 23:22), Evan Aguilera (66th place, 24:52), Jacob Hallahan (78th place, 26:16), Erik Cano (82nd place, 28:26), and Chris Flores (83rd place, 28:36) rounded out the scoring effort for the Running Hawks.
The SCC Lady Hawks were represented by two individual competitors in the women's race. Freshman Pyper Slattery (7th place) was a Top-10 medalist as she finished the 3.2-mile course in a time of 20 minutes 53 seconds. Freshman Selah Darden finished in 44th place for the Lady Hawks.
The SCC Cross Country Teams will next compete this Friday (September 23rd) at the Southern California Regional Preview Meet hosted by Bakersfield College at the Kern County Soccer Complex in Bakersfield.
