Orange Empire Conference Championships
On Friday, October 28th, the SCC Men's and Women's Cross Country Teams competed in the Orange Empire Conference Cross Country Championships hosted by Santa Ana College at Central Park in Huntington Beach.
The SCC Lady Hawks placed 3rd overall as they recorded wins over conference rivals Fullerton, Golden West, and Orange Coast. Freshman Pyper Slattery (20 minutes 13 seconds) and sophomore Kassie Machado (20 minutes 52 seconds) led the way for the Lady Hawks as they placed 3rd and 6th respectively and each earned 1st Team "All Conference" recognition. Elizabeth Ramirez (25th place), Lourdes Pantaleon (27th place), and Selah Darden (29th place) completed the team scoring for the Lady Hawks.
On the men's side, the Running Hawks placed 6th overall and defeated conference rival Golden West College. Sophomore Jesus Retiguin ran a 4-mile cross country lifetime best time of 21 minutes 58 seconds as he led the way for the Running Hawks with his 25th place finish. Freshmen Johan Espejo (43rd place), Evan Aguilera (47th place), Jacob Hallahan (60th place), and Chris Flores (63rd place) completed the team scoring for the Running Hawks.
Both squads earned team qualifying berths into the Southern California Regional Cross Country Championships which will be held this Friday (November 4th) at the Kern County Regional Soccer Complex in Bakersfield.
