The Santiago Canyon College Softball Team kicks off the 2020 season at Bakersfield College on Friday January 24th. The opening weekend will be the 2nd annual event at Bakersfield College where 4 of the top ranked teams in the state including Bakersfield College, College of San Mateo, Mt. San Antonio College and SCC face off in a weekend that promises some very exciting softball action. The Hawks will face Mt. SAC at noon on Friday the 24th, followed by College of San Mateo at 4pm and then finish up the weekend with a 2pm game against Bakersfield College. The Hawks home opener will take place on Wednesday January 29th at 3:00pm against San Diego City College.
SCC returns eight athletes from the 2019 roster including OEC All-Conference Third Baseman Cozette Zoch who hit .371 in her freshman campaign with 37 RBI, second baseman Alyssa Enriquez who was selected as the State Player of the Week with a .414 average before being sidelined on a medical redshirt with a knee injury, returning starting shortstop Alyssa Baltierra, Sabrina Rivera who was a finalist for Defense Player of the Year committing only 1 error on the season in 220 total chances, Vanessa Zottneck and Amiah Rivas who shared time behind the plate for the Hawks in 2019, Dana Demo who was extremely clutch for the Hawks hitting .474 in pinch hit scenarios, and Gillian Dykier returning to anchor the Hawks in the outfield. The Hawks welcome one transfer to their roster, Sophomore outfielder Isabelle Valdez, an Orange Lutheran High School graduate who competed at Vanguard University as a freshmen. Two freshmen, Kayla Romero (Upland HS) and Mystique Rocha (Fullerton Union HS) will see the bulk of the work in the circle this season as the Hawks graduated all three from their 2019 roster. Rounding out the SCC Roster is a pool of talented freshmen that includes a versatile utility athlete in Nicole Crabb (Yorba Linda HS) along with infielders: Samantha Villanueva (Godinez HS) and Alexandra Molina (Segerstrom HS), and outfielders including: Lili Navarro (Segerstrom HS), Noelle Fisher (Canyon HS), and Alyssa Avila (Irvine HS).
The Hawks are no stranger to the post season having gone deep into the playoffs for the past 7 consecutive years including a State Championship Title in 2016 under the leadership of Head Coach Lisa Camarco who is in her 14th season leading the program. "The start of a new season is always exciting, so much preparation goes into leading up to opening day and this team has a great opportunity to leave their mark on the history books at SCC," states Coach Camarco.
