The Hawks cruised to a 2-0 half-time lead but were then undone by four goals in twenty minutes at the OC Great Park against Saddleback College.
Ashley Roskelly followed in on 6 minutes to score, after good work by Brianna Diaz and Tara Hansel created the opening. Twenty minutes later Jessica Santucci's first time strike put the Hawks two-up.
After the break, the Gaucho's responded and the Hawks succumbed twice to the pace of the Saddleback front-line who tied the score at 2-2. SCC switched off at a corner and conceded a third, and were punished further when a shot from distance sailed over the head of Keeper Emily Diplock.
With 20 minutes still remaining, in what was an entertaining game for the neutral, the Hawks tried to find a way back. Hansel served and Courtney Carbajal pounced to make it 4-3 with 6 minutes plus added time remaining. The Gaucho's then had a player dismissed for violent conduct, but the Hawks couldn't capitalize, with Hannah Roskelly going closest with a chest and volley from the top of the box.
It wasn't to be, and so the Hawks now regroup for Friday's visit of Santa Ana College. Kick-off is at 3pm. Thanks to all those who travelled south to support the team today.
