Cassie Lewis proved the difference-maker in an open contest between two highly ranked teams.
The Hawks defeated visiting Cypress College 1-0 on a 76th minute goal following a serve by Maya Little (pictured) that Lewis clipped beyond the Chargers keeper.
Nikki Marino went the closest to scoring in the opening period, striking the upright from distance as both teams went in to the break scoreless.
Alyssa Rubio, Summer Stewart and Lewis all had chances in the second-half before the Hawks opened the scoring. Santiago Canyon continued to push for the second goal but in the end had to settle for the 1-0 victory. Zaydee Solis collected the shut-out in goal for SCC.
Next up for the Hawks is another home contest against Golden West College to round out the first half of league play. Kick-off is 3pm on Tuesday, October 19th.
Thanks go out to all those who came out to support the team versus Cypress.
