Two halves, separated by a 1 hour delay for lightning in the area, ended all even between the two teams that are currently top of the Orange Empire Conference.
At the mid-point of the first-half, Saddleback opened the scoring. The Hawks responded ten minutes later with a fine strike from Alyssa Rubio. Shortly afterwards, Nikki Marino hit a shot from distance destined for the top corner, that was well-saved by the visiting Keeper.
After the interlude, Marino gave the Hawks the lead, rounding Saddleback's keeper who was adjudged not to have control of the ball.
Saddleback responded and equalized in controversial circumstances. Hawks keeper Savanna Prado saved well, but Saddleback were first to the rebound, as the visiting forward controlled with her hand before scoring from close range.
As the clock ticked down, the Hawks pushed for the winner. Gritsey Ramirez (pictured) hit a well-struck drive from around 12 yards that the Saddleback keeper was able to repel, so the score remained tied. The two teams meet again on Friday, November 4th.
Thanks to all those in attendance yesterday, including numerous Hawks alumni who came out to cheer on the team.
Santiago Canyon plays next away at sister college Santa Ana on Friday, October 14th. Kick-off is at 3pm.
