It was a formidable second half for the Santiago Canyon College women's soccer team on Tuesday afternoon after finding themselves in an offensive halt throughout the majority of the first half. A three-goal outpour in the second half propelled the Hawks to a 3-0 victory.
After a scoreless first, the Hawks wasted no time in the second half as they netted their first score in the 46th minute compliments of freshman forward Alyssa Marino. Sophomore midfielder Jordan Salinas connected with her for the score.
Freshman forward Sloane De Torres got in on the scoring action later in the contest compliments of a corner kick to punch in her second goal in the past three games. Freshman forward Megan Llopis added an insurance goal in the 89th minute to seal the deal with freshman forward Madelynn Valdez assisting on the play.
SCC dominated the offensive opportunities as they outshot IVC by a 24-2 ratio. A total of 15 shots were attempted in the second half with 14 total shots landing on frame.
Marino led the way with seven shots, while freshman forward Rayleen Chairez followed with four attempts. Freshman forward Jacqueline Arroyo backed her with three shots.
It was a goalkeeper by committee format for the Hawks with freshman Grayton Normand earning the start. She hauled in a save and the win. Freshman Krystal Maxey finished out the second half while not having an opportunity at a save.
