The Santiago Canyon College women's soccer team hit the road for the first time in a week to take on the Orange Coast College Pirates in Orange Empire Conference (OEC) action. The Hawks found themselves down by one score at halftime, but were able to push ahead as the game ended in a 1-1 draw.
The Hawks fired off six shots in the first half coming from six different players. Three of the six shots landed on frame starting with a try from freshman forward Rayleen Chairez in the 11th minute. Freshman midfielder Madison Stottlemyer tried her head on the rebound, but the shot was saved. Sophomore forward Sheila Sanchez closed out the half with the final attempt in the half, but was denied.
The Hawks broke through in the 61st minute compliments of a score from freshman forward Sloane De Torres. Freshman forward Samantha Aguila recorded an assist on the score for her third assist in the past two contests to bring the score to 1-1.
However, from then on, the score remained knotted at one all as time expired.
The Hawks fought until the very end by recording four shots in the final 10 minutes, but three of the attempts were saved.
SCC outshot OCC by a ratio of 16-12 with 10 of the Hawk's attempts landing on frame. Aguila paced the pack with four, while De Torres fired off three.
The Hawks will close out regular season play on the road against top-ranked Saddleback this Thursday, November 9 at 3 p.m. on the road.
