The Santiago Canyon College women's soccer team hit the road for its final Orange Empire Conference (OEC) contest of the season and faced off against the top-ranked Saddleback College Bobcats. The Hawks made a push late in the game by scoring in the 73rd minute, but it wasn't enough as they suffered a 2-1 defeat.
Sophomore midfielder Jordan Salinas etched the lone goal for the Hawks late in the second half for her seventh score of the season. She misfired on a shot in the previous minute, but regrouped and buried her second opportunity. It was the final SCC opportunity as time expired.
Six of the Hawk's 10 shots came in the first half starting with the opening try coming from freshman forward Sloane De Torres who missed wide right. Freshman forward Megan Llopis tried her head shortly after, while freshman forward Samantha Aguila narrowly missed high in the 31st minute.
Llopis tried her foot again in the 40th minute, but nailed the crossbar. Her shot was sandwiched between opportunities from freshman forward Rayleen Chairez and freshman forward Marlene Ruiz.
Llopis led with three shots, while Salinas followed with two tries. Freshman goalkeeper Krystal Maxey (7-2-1) was tabbed with the loss after going the distance between the pipes and hauling in five saves.
Santiago Canyon finished the regular season with a 14-3-3 overall recorded which includes a 10-2-2 conference clip. They now await their seeding for the upcoming 3C2A Southern Regional Championships. The first round is scheduled for Saturday, November 18 with the opponent, time and location to be determined.
