Women’s Soccer Earns Six All-Conference Accolades
The Santiago Canyon College women's soccer team finished regular season action last week and placed second in the Orange Empire Conference (OEC). Six players were named to the All-OEC team highlighted by a trio of first teamers consisting of sophomores Jordan Salinas, Kiera Hanna and Elyse Valenzuela, while sophomore Aubrey Bryant, freshman Marlene Ruiz and freshman Jordyn Lamastra earned second team recognition.
Salinas was the anchor in the middle for the Hawks as she effected multiple areas on the pitch. Her offensive prowess was seen in controlling the flow of the game and creating opportunities for her team. She recorded seven goals on the season to go along with a pair of assists leading to 16 points. She was a clutch player highlighted by a game-winning score in the 90th minute against Moorpark early in the season. She ended with two game-winning scores. Furthermore, she fired off a team-high 61 shots leading to a .137 shot percentage.
Hanna, Valenzuela and Bryant manned the backline that led to 11 shutouts with eight coming in conference action. The three-headed monster in the back helped lead the team to three-consecutive shutout victories on two separate occasions in conference play.
Bryant was the main foot on corner kicks leading to a team-high 10 assists. Bryant also netted one goal on the year in the season-opening tromping over San Bernardino. Valenzuela and Hanna each recorded an assist to get in on the offensive action as well.
Ruiz was a sparkplug for the Hawk's offense by playing in 16 games while starting in 10. She recorded two goals on the year accompanied by one assist. He goals came against San Bernardino and Fullerton, while her assist was notched against Orange Coast.
Lamastra was part of the defensive unit that helped lead the team's eight shutouts. She netted one goal and notched two assists leading to four points. She found the back of the net and scored a goal in a 2-0 win over Irvine, while recording an assist in a 9-0 route over Santa Ana.
The Hawks (14-3-3, 10-2-2 OEC) earned the 11th seed in the 3C2A Southern Regional Playoffs and will face off against the sixth-seeded Cypress College Chargers on the road this Saturday, November 18 at 1 p.m. Please visit www.scchawks.com for more information.
