The Santiago Canyon College women's soccer team has outscored the San Bernardino Valley College Wolverines 14-1 in their last four meetings. Tonight was no different as the Hawks blanked the Wolverines 6-0 during the team's season opening contest under the lights.
The Hawks displayed a deep roster by featuring 19 players while leaning on a pair of returners on the offensive front. The Hawks defensive line halted the Wolverines to three shots, while countering with 14 shots of their own; eight being on target.
Sophomores Alyssa Marino and Samantha Aguila each buried two goals to pace the offense and distance themselves from the Wolverines with ease.
Marino, who scored 10 goals in her inaugural campaign, picked up right where she left off by netting the team's first goal in the eighth minute. She backed her opening score with a banger in the 58th minute that put the Hawks up 3-0 at the time.
Aguila shined in the second half by burying her two scores coming in the 62nd minute and the 85th minute. Sophomore Christina Benavides set up Aguila's second goal and the team's sixth goal of the night on a cross into the box that found the foot of Aguila.
Sophomore Jordyn Lamastra was active early by assisting on freshman Karen Pedraza's first-career goal off a corner kick in the 18th minute. She later added a netter in the 68th minute that put them up 5-0.
The Hawks utilized a goalkeeper by committee with sophomore Grayton Normand earning the starting nod. She picked up the win despite not facing a shot on goal. Freshman Makayla Worcerster played the final 45 minutes between the pipes and recorded a save in her first taste of action.
