The Santiago Canyon College women's soccer team looked to keep the winning momentum rolling on Friday afternoon as they hosted the Southwestern College Jaguars at home in non-conference action. Despite gaining an early 1-0 lead, the Hawks hit a roadblock by allowing four Jaguar goals, three coming in the second half, leading to a 4-2 defeat.
The Hawks etched their first score on the board early in the first half with freshman Darlene Dominguez driving the ball to the back of the net in the 10th minute.
Both offenses remained at a standstill throughout the following 30 minutes, but a foul in the Hawks' box granted Southwestern a penalty kick in the 40th minute. The Jaguars capitalized with sophomore goalkeeper Grayton Normand diving the opposite direction of the shot leading to the score.
The Jaguars continued to push in the second half with their second score coming in the 48th minute due to a miscommunication just inside the top of the box. A gently placed ball over the Hawk's outstretched keeper saw the Hawks down 2-1.
Southwestern did not stop as they found the net once again in the 52nd minute. The Hawks responded in the 88th minute by drawing a penalty kick leading to a goal from sophomore Jordyn Lamastra to set up a comeback scenario.
Unfortunately for Santiago Canyon, the Jaguars were able to score their fourth and final goal on a free kick in extra time leading to a 4-2 loss.
Normand (1-1-0) was tabbed with the loss after playing 81 minutes in the box and hauling in three saves. Freshman Makayla Worcester earned some action in the beginning of the second half, but exited after 10 minutes.
Dominguez and Lamastra led the team in shots with three each and two of their tries landing on frame. Sophomore Alyssa Marino tried her foot twice, while sophomore Sloane De Torres matched her efforts with two shots as well.
SCC outshot Southwestern, 12-10, and each team booted a pair of corner kicks.
