Women’s Soccer Ends in Scoreless Draw
The Santiago Canyon College women's soccer team hosted the Fullerton College Hornets in Orange Empire Conference (OEC) action on Friday night. The Hawks, who have not lost in 10 consecutive matches, ended the contest in a scoreless draw, marking their third scoreless finish of the season and their fourth tie since mid-October.
The Hawks were particularly active on offense, registering a season-high 29 shots, with 17 of those coming in the second half. Despite playing with two players down, Fullerton's defense held strong, with the Hornets' goalkeeper making a season-high 17 saves to keep the Hawks off the scoreboard.
The Hawks appeared to break through in the 88th minute when sophomore Jordyn Lamastra delivered a 30-yard cross into the box, finding freshman Darlene Dominguez. Dominguez connected with the ball using her outside foot, seemingly scoring what posed as the game-winning goal.
However, after a collision in the box, the referee reversed the goal, calling a foul on Dominguez, which left the game scoreless with just three minutes remaining. The final whistle blew shortly after, sealing the draw.
Lamastra led the team with eight shots, followed by sophomore Samantha Aguila and freshman Karen Pedraza, who each attempted four shots. Dominguez recorded a team-high three shots on goal.
Freshman goalkeeper Mikayla Worcester started the match and played the first half without facing any shots. Sophomore Grayton Normand took over in the second half, recording two saves.
