The Santiago Canyon College women's volleyball team opened Orange Empire Conference (OEC) play on Friday night as they hit the road to take on the Cypress College Chargers. The Hawks improved as the match progress, but ultimately fell in straight sets with scores reading 4-25, 17-25 and 14-25.
Freshman outside hitter Chelsea Riedel led the pack with eight kills on nine attempts leading to a .778 hitting percentage. She added to her arsenal with a service ace leading to 10 points on the night.
Freshman setter Peyton Speakman had two assists to go along with one kill and three digs, while freshman middle Haileigh Psachall earned one kill as well. Freshman Sophie Ziglinski swung seven times to rank second on the team in attempts, but failed to find the hardwood.
Freshman libero Daj Lowe manned the backline and thrived on the service line leading to a pair of aces.
