Volleyball Dominates in First Win of the Season
The Santiago Canyon College women's volleyball team was on the hunt for its first win on Friday night as they traveled to Fullerton College to take on the Hornets in Orange Empire Conference (OEC) action. The Hawks found themselves in closes sets and came through in the clutch to earn their first victory with set scores reading 25-21, 25-23, and 25-21.
It is the first win of the season for the Hawks as they did so via sweep. Freshman outside hitter Chelsea Riedel was the main weapon as she notched 22 kills on 25 attempts. She ranks sixth overall in the conference as she is 14 kills away from hitting the century mark. She added an assist and a service ace as well.
Freshman Sophie Zignliski followed with six kills, while freshman Sarah Violett chipped in three. Ziglinski landed four service aces and now sits second in the conference with 0.75 services aces-per-set.
Freshman setter Peyton Speakman was the main facilitator as she lofted up 30 assist to mark her second-largest output on the season. It is her fourth-consecutive match with double-digit assists. She is 10th in the conference with 126 assists. Furthermore, Speakman found the hardwood for four service aces.
