Women’s Volleyball Falls to No. 10 Cypress
The Santiago Canyon College women's volleyball team played its third-consecutive ranked opponent on Wednesday night as they hosted the No. 10 Cypress College Chargers in Orange Empire Conference (OEC) action. The Hawks battled to surpass double-digit points in each set, but ultimately fell in three-straight sets.
Freshman Chelsea Riedel led the Hawks with 11 kills on a team-high 47 attempts. She has reached the double-digit mark in four of the last five matches. Her 47 attempts tonight was the second-largest mark of her career and the first time she went above the 40 attempt mark in a three-set match. She added 12 digs on the defensive end as well.
Despite suffering an injury in the second set, freshman Peyton Speakman battled to play all three sets and finished with 16 assists and two digs. She has recorded double-digit assists in all but two matches. Additionally, she has lofted up at least 11 assists in eight-consecutive matches.
Freshman Daj Lowe earned her first-career start at libero and set a personal-best mark with six digs. She displayed strong passing on the back line as well. Sophomore Nicole Rodrigues matched her six digs to go along with four kills on 10 attempts to earn a .400 hitting percentage.
Freshman Sophie Ziglinski hammered home five kills and pocketed nine digs, one ace and a solo stuff. Freshman Sarah Violett added two aces and teamed up with Rodrigues for a block assist.
