Golden West Invitational
On Friday, September 24, The Santiago Canyon College Cross Country Teams competed against a field of 18 community college programs at the Golden West Central Park Classic held in Huntington Beach.
The SCC men's cross country team placed 9th overall as they earned victories against Fullerton, Golden West, Norco, Citrus, Los Angeles Harbor, Pasadena City, Santa Monica, East Los Angeles, and Oxnard. The Running Hawks were led by freshman Nathan Fisher who place 40th within the field of 126 competitors and recorded a time of 23 minutes and 9 seconds for the 4-mile men's course. Joshua Maguire (49th place, 23:26), Nick Villalobos (71st place, 24:36), Jesus Retiguin(72nd place, 24:36), Brandon Dominguez (73rd place, 24:39), Mason French (81st place, 24:59), and Grant Mainville (97th place, 26:48) rounded out the scoring unit for the Running Hawks.
The Lady Hawks were represented by a freshman trio of individual competitors Kassie Machado, Annelise Castillo, and Alexandra Paul. Machado led the way for the Lady Hawks as she placed 22nd overall within the field of 74 runners and recorded a time of 22 minutes 11 seconds for the 5,000 meter women's course. Castillo and Paul placed 59th and 69th respectively with finish times of 27:36 and 32:04.
The Hawks cross country program will next compete on Friday, October 1st, at the San Diego Mesa Invitational.
